What is a Classic?
Pure Classic was one of the original 13 Kibbe body types but was removed from the official system in 2021. David Kibbe concluded that no body is perfectly 50/50 yin/yang, so Pure Classics were folded into Soft Classic (yin-leaning) or Dramatic Classic (yang-leaning). The historical type described moderate height (5′4″–5′7″), perfectly-balanced bones, and moderate flesh — symmetric, refined, and timelessly elegant. If you tested as a Pure Classic, re-test on the yin/yang dimension: determine whether your subtle lean is toward softness (SC) or sharpness (DC). We keep this page because the term still appears in legacy resources.
Essence: Refined, Symmetrical, Timeless, Understated.

Classic — frequently asked
- Is Pure Classic still a Kibbe body type? +
- No. David Kibbe officially removed Pure Classic, Pure Natural, and Pure Gamine from the system in 2021. Today there are 10 official types — but the term "Classic" still appears in older books and community resources.
- What should I do if I tested as a Pure Classic? +
- Re-test on the yin/yang axis. Look at your edges: if they are softly rounded with gentle curves, you are Soft Classic. If they are sharp and angular with taut flesh, you are Dramatic Classic.
- Why did Kibbe remove Pure Classic? +
- Kibbe concluded that no one is truly 50/50 on the yin/yang spectrum — every body leans slightly one way. Pure Classic was folded into Soft Classic and Dramatic Classic.
- How do I know if I am Soft Classic or Dramatic Classic? +
- Look at your facial bones and flesh. SC has softly rounded edges and softly fleshed cheeks. DC has sharp angular bones (defined cheekbones, crisp jawline) and lean taut flesh.
- Are any celebrities still labeled Pure Classic? +
- Older sources sometimes still use the label, but modern consensus places everyone in SC or DC. Kate Middleton is a canonical Soft Classic; Jackie Kennedy is a canonical Dramatic Classic.
- Can the Pure Classic style recommendations still work? +
- Partially — Classic family essentials (refined tailoring, timeless silhouettes, symmetry) still apply. But the full styling needs to lean yin or yang depending on your specific edges.
- Is "Classic" a Kibbe family or a type? +
- Both. "Classic" is one of five Kibbe families (Dramatic, Natural, Classic, Gamine, Romantic). The family contains Soft Classic and Dramatic Classic as its two current types — Pure Classic was the former third type.
- What is the Classic essence in general? +
- Refinement, symmetry, and timeless understated elegance. The Classic essence leans toward tailored moderation — nothing extreme, nothing trendy, always appropriate. Both Soft Classic and Dramatic Classic carry this, just with a subtle yin or yang tilt.
