What is a Gamine?
Pure Gamine was one of the original 13 Kibbe body types but was removed from the official system in 2021. David Kibbe folded Pure Gamines into Soft Gamine (yin-softened) or Flamboyant Gamine (yang-sharpened). The historical type described a petite frame (under 5′5″) with sharp yin/yang contrast in the body — e.g. angular features on a curvy frame, or vice versa. If you tested as a Pure Gamine, re-test on the yin/yang dimension: determine whether your overall essence leans soft-rounded (SG) or sharp-angular (FG). We keep this page because the term still appears in legacy resources and community decks.
Essence: Spunky, Youthful, Playful, Distinct.

- −Staying on the Pure Gamine line — Kibbe removed it
- −Trying to combine sharp AND soft equally (overwhelms the petite scale)
Fabrics
Love: See Soft Gamine or Flamboyant Gamine — the right fabric depends on which you are.
Avoid: Anything in a large scale that overwhelms your petite frame.
Accessories & jewelry
Re-test: SG favors rounded petite pieces; FG favors sharp small-scale geometric ones.
Signature look
Go read the Soft Gamine or Flamboyant Gamine guide — the signature look depends on your yin or yang lean.
Makeup & hair: Gamine family share: contrast detail, crisp eye, distinctive expression. But the yin/yang execution depends on SG or FG.

Gamine — frequently asked
- Is Pure Gamine still a Kibbe body type? +
- No. David Kibbe officially removed Pure Gamine, Pure Classic, and Pure Natural from the system in 2021. Today there are 10 official types — but the term "Gamine" still appears in older books and community resources.
- What should I do if I tested as a Pure Gamine? +
- Re-test on the yin/yang axis. Look at your overall essence: if features and flesh read soft and rounded, you are Soft Gamine. If they read sharp and angular, you are Flamboyant Gamine.
- Why did Kibbe remove Pure Gamine? +
- Kibbe concluded that every body leans subtly yin or yang — no one is truly 50/50. Pure Gamine was folded into Soft Gamine and Flamboyant Gamine to honor those leans.
- How do I know if I am Soft Gamine or Flamboyant Gamine? +
- Look at your facial features and flesh. SG has rounded soft features (big round eyes, full cheeks, soft jaw). FG has sharp angular features (defined cheekbones, narrow jaw, taut flesh).
- Are any celebrities still labeled Pure Gamine? +
- Older sources sometimes still use the label, but modern consensus places everyone in SG or FG. Audrey Hepburn is a canonical Soft Gamine; Edie Sedgwick is canonical Flamboyant Gamine.
- Can the Pure Gamine style recommendations still work? +
- Partially — Gamine family essentials (petite scale, yin/yang contrast, crisp detail, playful distinction) still apply. But full styling needs to lean yin or yang depending on your essence.
- Is "Gamine" a Kibbe family or a type? +
- Both. "Gamine" is one of five Kibbe families (Dramatic, Natural, Classic, Gamine, Romantic). The family contains Soft Gamine and Flamboyant Gamine as its two current types — Pure Gamine was the former third type.
- What is the Gamine essence? +
- Petite, spirited, and built on yin/yang contrast. The Gamine essence is a small package with visible contrast — e.g. sharp features on a curvy body, or angular bones with soft facial flesh. Always crisp, always distinctive.
